Privacy policy
FinMaxxing teaches how money works. It has no accounts and no server. Your progress stays on your phone, and nothing about you is sent to us. We don't ask about your own money, and you never need to tell us.
1. The short version
- What leaves your phone: nothing. There's no sign-in and no account. Lessons are built into the app. We never see who you are or how you're getting on.
- What stays on your phone: your year of birth, daily goal, reminder setting, lesson progress, stories started and finished (and how far you got), streak, XP, achievements, review schedule and sound settings.
- What we don't do: no ads, no tracking, no analytics, no location, no selling data, no profiling.
- Apple: tells us how many people download FinMaxxing, as totals only. If you've agreed in your iPhone settings to share crash reports with developers, Apple may pass those on too.
- The only personal data we handle: emails you choose to send us, and basic logs kept by the host of this website.
- Your choices: reminders are off unless you turn them on. In Settings you can export your progress or erase it. Deleting the app also removes it.
2. Who we are
FinMaxxing is a free, non-commercial app published by Gregor Maxwell, an individual based in England, UK. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Gregor Maxwell.
- Contact email: hello@maxwellpartners.co.uk
Gregor Maxwell is the data controller for the personal data described in sections 6 and 7: emails you send us and this website's logs. That means we decide how that data is used, and we're responsible for looking after it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). We don't receive anything that's stored in the app on your phone.
3. What stays on your phone
The app saves a few things on your phone so it can work. They're kept in FinMaxxing's own storage on the phone. They're never sent to us or anyone else, and we can't see them.
| What | Why the app keeps it |
|---|---|
| Year of birth (just the year) | To check you're 16 or over, and to show extra support, such as Childline, to anyone who might be under 18. |
| Learning progress: lessons completed, mistakes per lesson, stories started and finished (and how far you got), XP, streak, achievements and the counts behind them, review schedule and time spent learning each day | To save your place, bring back things you're about to forget, and run your streak and daily goal. |
| Settings: daily goal, whether the reminder is on, reminder time, time zone, sound and vibration settings | To run the daily goal, show the one reminder you asked for, and count your streak from your own midnight. |
The daily reminder is set up on your phone. It doesn't come from a server.
The app works offline. It doesn't connect to the internet by itself. If you tap a link, such as this policy or MoneyHelper, it opens in your browser, and that website's own privacy policy applies.
If you enter a year that makes you under 16, the app tells you it's for people aged 16 and over, and it doesn't keep the year you entered.
Because nothing is backed up by us, we can't restore your progress if you lose your phone, erase your progress or delete the app. A new phone starts fresh.
4. What we never collect
- Your name, email address or any account details. There's no sign-in.
- Anything about your own finances: income, savings, debts, bank details or card numbers. Lessons use made-up examples.
- Payment details. FinMaxxing is free and has no in-app purchases.
- Your location.
- Your contacts, photos, health data or anything from other apps.
- Advertising IDs. There are no ads, no tracking tools, no analytics tools and no crash-reporting tools in FinMaxxing, so the app never asks to track you.
We don't sell data, share it for advertising, or build a profile of you. We don't make decisions about you by automated means.
5. Apple
FinMaxxing is downloaded from Apple's App Store. Apple handles your Apple Account and App Store activity under its own privacy policy.
- Downloads. Apple tells us how many people download FinMaxxing, as totals only. We can't see who downloaded it.
- Crash reports. If you've turned on sharing with app developers in your iPhone settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers), Apple may pass crash reports for FinMaxxing to us. Apple says this information is aggregated or in a form that doesn't identify you personally (Apple: App Analytics & Privacy). We only use it to fix problems. You can turn it off at any time in the same place.
6. If you email us
If you email us, for example to ask a question, report a mistake in a lesson, we receive your email address, your message and anything else you choose to include. This is the only personal data about you that we handle.
- Why: to read and answer your message, and to fix anything you report.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests (helping you and keeping the app accurate).
- Where it's kept: in the Maxwell & Partners mailbox (hello@maxwellpartners.co.uk), hosted by GoDaddy, which stores it for us in the UK.
- Please don't send us details about your own money. We can't give advice about your situation.
We don't share your emails with anyone, unless the law requires it, for example a valid request from the police or a court, or to protect someone's safety.
7. This website
These pages don't use cookies, analytics or tracking. Their fonts are served from this website, so visiting doesn't send anything to Google or any other third party.
The website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may keep basic access logs, such as your IP address and the time of your visit, to run and protect the site. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (keeping the website working and secure). Cloudflare handles these logs under its own privacy policy.
8. How long things are kept
- Your progress on your phone: until you erase it in Settings or delete the app. We never have a copy.
- Support emails: up to 90 days after your question is resolved, then deleted.
- Website logs: kept by Cloudflare for as long as its privacy policy says. We don't keep our own copies.
9. If you're 16 or 17
FinMaxxing is for anyone aged 16 and over. We designed it with the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code) in mind, so it works the same way for everyone, with privacy-protective settings by default:
- Nothing about you leaves your phone.
- Reminders are off until you turn them on.
- No profiling, no location, no ads, no tracking.
- No leaderboards, no comparing you with other people, and no pressure to stay in the app longer.
- If you might be under 18, the app's list of free support services includes Childline.
You can use all the rights and choices in the next section yourself. You don't need a parent's permission.
10. Your rights and choices
Your progress on your phone is under your control. We don't hold it, so we can't see, change or delete it for you. You can:
- See it and take a copy: Settings → Export my progress gives you everything the app keeps on your phone, as text, through your phone's share sheet.
- Change it: change your daily goal, reminder and sound settings in Settings.
- Erase it: Settings → Erase my progress clears everything FinMaxxing stored on your phone and turns off the reminder. Deleting the app also removes it.
For emails you've sent us, you have these rights under UK data protection law:
- to get a copy of what we hold (access);
- to have it corrected (rectification);
- to have it deleted (erasure);
- to ask us to limit how we use it (restriction);
- to object to us using it on the basis of legitimate interests.
Email us to use any of these. We'll reply within one month. It's free. We may need to check the request comes from the same email address first.
11. Keeping it safe
- Your progress is kept in FinMaxxing's own storage on your phone, which other apps can't read. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app and see your progress, so keep your phone locked.
- If you export your progress, the copy goes wherever you choose to send or save it. We don't receive it unless you email it to us.
- Only Gregor Maxwell reads support emails.
If something goes wrong that puts your data at risk, we'll tell you and the ICO when the law requires it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how FinMaxxing handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is important, for example if we ever add accounts or anything that sends data from the app, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect, and it will be something you choose to use.
13. Contact us or complain
Questions, requests or worries about your data: email hello@maxwellpartners.co.uk.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or call 0303 123 1113.
